Kalari, an ancient martial art form originatied from the Indian subcontinent, has a rich history dating back thousands of years. Among its various styles, Kalari Adimurai and Kalaripayattu stand out as significant components that embody the essence of this traditional combat system.

Kalari traces its roots to the southern Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where it evolved as a holistic system encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions. The word "Kalari" itself refers to the training arena or battlefield, emphasizing the martial nature of this ancient art form. Its origins are often linked to the Siddha (science of mind and body), Dhanurveda (science of archery) and Ayurveda (science of life), suggesting a holistic approach to combat and well-being.
